Business Model Patterns

Business model patterns are recurring, reusable configurations of how a company creates, delivers, and captures value, distilled from many firms so that leaders can recognise a proven structure and adapt it rather than invent a model from a blank page.

A pattern names a design choice that has worked before: razor-and-blade, freemium, subscription, marketplace, pay-per-use. Each bundles a customer segment, a value proposition, a revenue logic, and a cost logic into a shape that can be lifted and reapplied across industries.

Leaders use patterns as a design vocabulary. Instead of debating in the abstract, a team can compare candidate patterns, combine two into a hybrid, and stress-test each against its market. This turns model design into a structured choice among known options.
