Monetization Strategy

A monetization strategy is the deliberate plan for how a business converts the value it creates into revenue, choosing what to charge for, which pricing mechanism to use, and how to package and capture willingness to pay across customer segments.

Monetization goes beyond setting a price. It decides the unit of value that is billed, whether by seat, usage, outcome, or tier, and how free, freemium, and paid offers work together to attract, convert, and expand customers. The same product can be monetized in several different ways.

The strategy links value creation to value capture. It draws on cost structure, competitive context, and customer willingness to pay, then designs the offer so that price reflects value received. Testing and iteration usually matter more than a single upfront answer.
