Operating Model Canvas

An operating model canvas is a single-page visual template that lays out the core elements of how an organization delivers value — value proposition, processes, organization, locations, information, suppliers, and management — so leaders can design and align the operating model on one shared page.

The canvas takes a subject that is usually spread across many documents and compresses it into one view. Each block prompts a specific design choice, and the blocks are read together so decisions in one area stay consistent with the others.

It works as a conversation tool as much as a design tool. Because the whole model is visible at once, leadership teams can spot gaps, overlaps, and mismatches between what the strategy asks for and how the organization is arranged to deliver it.

The canvas is deliberately high-level. It frames the shape of the operating model and leaves the detailed process and capability work to be developed underneath.
