The UNITE Evolutionary Drivers Of Change

It may be cliched to say that change comes from within, but it is true in terms of changes in culture. It is almost always the case that change arises from personal growth. This is why we need to foster such personal evolution in our organizations.

I completely re-evaluated the role of innovation in business growth: before reading this book I have to admit I thought it only entailed product new features and technologies enhancements, while now I see it has everything to do with meeting customer needs and uncovering a business USP, which automatically translates in sales! Could not recommend it more!

Unlike most business innovation books I read over the last years (and even decades) when reading How to create innovation you immediately understand the authors have been there, innovating and transforming some of the world's most amazing brands. Great work!

Not only this book offers the most comprehensive innovation and business change overview but it really helps you take the next step, driving you step by step from theory to practice (also with super useful background notes and driving questions)

I really enjoyed the whole book, but mostly the culture chapter, mainly because I always failed to acknowledge its major role in favouring or inhibiting business growth. Loved the graphics that helped connect all the dots in a visually appealing (and way easier) way.

We’been willing to innovate our business for some years now, but then we always got stuck before we even started, because basically we had no idea where to start…This book helped us do just that: find the right starting point with guiding questions and an incredibly comprehensive innovation overview.

Thousands of organizations leverage the UNITE models - these are some of them ...

Why we use it

These two models show us how culture change happens, both when change emerges from an individual epiphany and when it is a result of an outside influence. By understanding how personal change leads to collective change, we have a better understanding of how we might affect change in our organization.

How It Works

Although new ideas do not happen in a vacuum, some new ideas have more to do with the unique connections made by an individual than with an outside influence. When this happens, we see an evolution from within. The individual changes their behavior as a result of the mental change they have undergone. When a large enough group of people begin to emulate this individual, we see a collective shift in mindset. This can then lead to the creation of new structures, processes and behaviors.
Sometimes the individual’s mindset is changed through an outside influence, like a new technology. As a cause of this, an individual changes their behavior. This behavior change achieves a critical mass leading to a cultural change in mindset, which then breeds new structures and ways of doing things.

What is the goal of the model?

Connecting individual change to collective change through mindset. Change always starts with a change in mindset, which then changes behaviors. Understanding this helps us see not only how cultural changes blossom in our societies, but how we can encourage culture change in our organizations.
