Business Capability Map

A business capability map is a structured, stable view of what an organisation is able to do — its capabilities — expressed independent of how they are currently organised or which technology supports them, providing a shared reference for strategy, investment, and transformation decisions.

Capabilities describe *what* the business does, not *how* or *who*. "Manage customer relationships" is a capability; the CRM system and the sales team are how it is delivered. Because capabilities change slowly, the map stays stable while structures and tools churn around it.

Leaders use the map to locate where a strategy demands new strength, where duplication hides cost, and where investment should concentrate. It becomes a common language across business and technology.
