Service Blueprint

A service blueprint is a diagram that maps every step of a service across two planes at once: the customer's visible experience above the line of interaction, and the staff actions, systems, and processes that deliver it below, showing how front-stage and backstage connect.

A service blueprint extends the customer view with the operational reality beneath it. It records the customer's actions, the frontstage touchpoints they meet, the backstage work that stays hidden, and the support systems and partners that make delivery possible. Lines of interaction, visibility, and internal interaction separate these layers.

Teams use blueprints to find where a service breaks: a handoff that drops, a system that cannot see what the customer sees, a step no one owns. Because it links experience to operations, it is a shared reference for design, operations, and technology.
